It's one of my favorite times of year! ASB applications for the 2018-2019 school year are officially LIVE 🐾 I love watching the applications roll in and seeing which kids are interested in joining this program. I've worked hard over the past couple of years to get to where I am and I am not done yet. I'll be honest though, this will be the toughest year yet in terms of goodbyes. The majority of my seniors in leadership have been with be since day 1. It is because of them that this program has evolved into what it is now and I owe it to them 🐾🌎
U.S. counterintelligence officials cautioned Jared Kushner that Chinese-American businesswoman Wendi Deng Murdoch could be using her friendship with Kushner and wife Ivanka Trump to further Chinese government interests, the Wall Street Journal reportedMonday.
The report said U.S. officials have also had concerns about a counterintelligence assessment that Murdoch was lobbying for a “high-profile construction project” funded by the Chinese government in Washington, D.C.
The project was first approved under the Bush administration in 2003. Then-Vice President Joe Biden and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton presented then-Chinese President Jiang Zemin with a model of the project in January 2011. Following an agreement by then-President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping, there was a groundbreaking ceremony in October 2016.
However, since then, the project has been deemed a national security risk because it inclded a 70-foot-tall white tower that could potentially be used for surveillance, according to the report. The report did not say when the project was deemed a national security risk.
For decades, researchers and immigration experts alike have warned lawmakers and administrations of the negative impact immigration, both legal and illegal, has on the African-American community.
Two studies from 2008 reviewed in great detail and length just how much black Americans have been kept down economically by a U.S. immigration system that admits more than 1.5 million legal and illegal immigrants a year, with no end in sight.
Cornell University’s Vernon Briggs Jr. wrote in his testimony before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights of how, in 2004, mass immigration to the U.S. had led to black Americans being replaced as the largest minority group in the country, being overtaken by Hispanic-Americans. “Although black Americans were 13.5 percent of the nation’s native-born population, they were only 7.8 percent of the foreign-born population in 2000,” Briggs noted. “Hispanics, on the other hand, were only 8.5 percent of the native-born population while being 45.2 percent of the foreign-born population.” In his 2008 testimony, Briggs stated that there was “little doubt that there is significant” impact on African-American workers who generally compete for the same U.S. jobs that illegal aliens and legal immigrants are often looking to get.
Briggs says that this immigration impact makes poor and working-class African-Americans the “major loser” in the workforce.
The major changes that could send Bitcoin’s value soaring may come from other sources. Bitcoin is trading around the $14,000 mark, down from a peak of nearly $20,000 in December. Tom Lee, co-founder and head of research at Fundstrat Global Advisors, told CNBC last week that bitcoin’s price could “easily double” over the coming year. But rather than a rally caused by any future halving events, Lee claimed that bitcoin serving as a replacement for gold could push it higher. While another halving event may not necessarily hurt bitcoin’s value in the long term, as with the previous event it depends on the circumstances surrounding the change.
Do you get "angry" when colleagues berate you about "understanding your own white privilege?" Well then, you might be a white supremacist, at least according to professor Reshmi Dutt-Ballerstadt, who teaches English at Linfield College in Oregon.
Dutt-Ballerstadt created a handy checklist "of qualities and attributes of those that overtly or covertly support or contribute to a culture of mundane and everyday white supremacy within our institutions." Her list contains 15 "troubles" that she says she "identified to help others in academe recognize your (un)conscious contributions to white supremacy."
In short, if you're not working actively to disenfranchise "white people" in America, you're probably a "white supremacist." This is the new standard for determining white supremacy.Imaging being employed at a university and getting paid to whine about "mundane white supremacy" all day and thinking you're oppressed.
Here's another point which I'm sure she'll soon add to the list: if you think English teachers should actually teach English and not about "dismantling white power structures," you're probably a white supremacist.
According to a new study by a three-member team of economists, the introduction of medical marijuana has helped bring down violent crime cases in states that border Mexico. The study, titled “Is Legal Pot Crippling Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations? The Effect of Medical Marijuana Laws on US Crime,” said violent crime fell by 13 percent on average in states located on the Mexican border that have legalized medical use of cannabis.“These laws allow local farmers to grow marijuana that can then be sold to dispensaries where it is sold legally,” said economist Evelina Gavrilova from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), one of the authors of the study. “These growers are in direct competition with Mexican drug cartels that are smuggling the marijuana into the U.S. As a result, the cartels get much less business.”“Whenever there is a medical marijuana law we observe that crime at the border decreases because suddenly there is a lot less smuggling and a lot less violence associated with that,” Gavrilova added.
Should they give you housing and make you stockholder?
A 2015 lawsuit claimed Twitter was spying on users, and now Twitter engineers openly admit they routinely observe the “private” sexual content of unsuspecting users.
The lawsuit was later dismissed in Twitter’s favor, but its allegations match up perfectly with new confessions from Twitter engineers, which suggests the social media site may soon be rocked with similar lawsuits comparing Twitter to Norman Bates spying on his hotel guests. “As soon as a user sends a Direct Message, Twitter intercepts, reads, and, at times, even alters the message,” said the 2015 federal lawsuit, which was filed by Wilford Raney. “Twitter users necessarily rely on these representations to form the understanding that direct messages let them communicate privately, as opposed to publicly through public tweets.”
About 1.5 million refugees have arrived in Germany since 2015, prompting local authorities to allocate huge sums for migration-related issues. Speaking to Sputnik, Professor Bernd Raffelhuschen from the University of Freiburg specifically focused on the long-term costs of pensions and sickness insurance for migrants.
Sputnik: Mr. Raffelhyushen, can you name the approximate state expenditures caused by the inflow of migrants starting in 2015?
Bernd Raffelhuschen: We have yet to define the exact number of refugees who arrived in Germany between 2016 and 2017. But if you just imagine that these people are not highly skilled workers and that some of them are not young, you can clearly understand that during their lifetime, they will pay out far less than they expect to get in the form of social benefits. And the gap between this ranges from 350,000 euros to 450,000 euros per refugee throughout his life.
WHO COLLUDED WITH THE RUSSIANS??
At least 27 people were killed and 64 wounded in a twin suicide bombing in central Baghdad on Monday, the deadliest attack so far this year in the Iraqi capital, an interior ministry official said. Two men detonated explosives vests in Aviation Square, a commercial district and gathering point for day laborers seeking work, scores of whom were killed and injured, according to the official.
Iraq declared victory last month over Islamic State (IS) militants who seized control of nearly a third of the country in 2014. However, IS continues to carry out attacks and bombings in Baghdad and different parts of the country.
The German foreign ministry condemned the devastating attack in Baghdad and expressed its condolences to the families of those killed.
Okay soooooo.... Lemme get this straight, hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan can hold rallies, terrorise people, kill people, harass people, etc etc etc, and white people won't even bat an eye. White people justify their actions, and blatant racism by granting them the privilege to hide behind the outdated constitution of the United States. Yet, Eric Sheppard, a young black man stages a protest of his own, and white people says that he's wrong, and should be stopped, arrested, killed, castrated, etc etc etc... How come white people, don't say that it was Eric Sheppard's constitutional right to step on the American flag? I mean, he is an American, just like those klan members, who kill, harass, bully, and terrorise people. How come, according to y'all he doesn't get the same privilege that the klan does? He's stepping on a flag, an inanimate object with no feelings, no thoughts, no emotions, and not human, shouldn't he get to hide behind the constitution like y'all allow those klan members who have literally taken the lives of actual living, breathing human beings? Maybe, according to white people the constitution only applies to them and them only. Ha! Only in Amerikkka... #EricSheppard#ejisinnocent#KKK#kukluxklan#constitution#UnitedStates#USConstitution#freedomofspeech#AmericanFlag #doublestandard#starsandstripes#oldglory #America #amerikkka#USA #UnitedStates #whitepeoplebelike #whitepeople #whitefear#whiteprivilege#whitesupremacy#whitedenial#whitedenialsyndrome #doublestandard #blackgenocide#blackholocaust
Facebook, in cooperation with a British Muslim group, Faith Associates, recently launched a new "guide" developed especially for Muslims: "Keeping Muslims Safe Online: Tackling Hate and Bigotry". The launch of the guide was hosted on November 29 at the British Parliament, where Karim Palant, Facebook's UK Public Policy manager, acknowledged"the partnership of Facebook with Faith Associates and said this was a first step in a line of activities being planned to protect the Facebook family". Simon Milner, Head of Policy UK at Facebook, stated:
We're proud to be supporting Faith Associates in the development of their online safety guide. Facebook welcomes all communities, and there is no place for hate on the platform". It is curious that of all the groups Facebook could have chosen to "protect" -- if one is to believe that Facebook intends to "protect" other groups as well -- it chose Muslims. Are Muslims the most targeted group in the world today? In Canada, according to fresh statistics, hate crimes against Muslims have fallen while hate crimes against Jews have risen. In the United States, according to Gatestone's A. Z. Mohamed:
So, National Security Advisor RICE of the Obama administration IS THE ONE THAT REQUESTED SURVEILLANCE TO BE CONTINUED ON TRUMP DURING THE TRANSITION PERIOD.
How can OBAMA not BE INVOLVED???
Teens around the world are indulging in laundry detergent due to a viral craze challenging them to eat Tide pods.
What may have started as a joke has resulted in several people filming themselves chewing on the convenient, tiny packets, then uploading the videos to Youtube.
A video compilation from The Daily Mailshows several teens putting the colorful pods in their mouths, then chomping down to release the detergent.
The meme’s viral nature – no matter how stupid – caused a flood of copycat video uploads, not to mention hospital visits.
One pod-eating Youtube producer, Matthew Lush, received over 150 thousand views.
Senator Rand Paul fought back against the “Trump is racist” narrative Sunday, explaining how POTUS funded a trip to give eye surgeries to hundreds of Haitians.
During an interview with NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Paul said, “It is unfair to draw conclusions from a remark that I think wasn’t constructive is the least we can say and I think it is unfair to all of a sudden, paint him, well, he’s a racist, when I know for a fact he cares very deeply about the people in Haiti because he helped to finance a trip, we were able to give vision back for 200 people in Haiti.”
Scientists in the United Kingdom analyzed about 300 people and concluded that surfers harbor a lot more bacteria in their guts that are resistant to antibiotic medication, compared to people who swim in the sea but don’t surf.
Led by Dr. Anne Leonard from the University of Exeter Medical School, the researchers recruited 150 surfers and 150 non-surfers, all of whom frequent the coastline of the U.K. Since the intention was to test for the presence of bacteria in their guts, the study’s participants were all given rectal swabs to collect fecal samples.
After eliminating some samples for contamination and other causes, Leonard and her team were left with swabs from 143 surfers and 130 non-surfers. Of the first group, a total of 13 — about 9 percent — had their guts colonized by strains of E. coli that are resistant to antibiotics. In contrast, only four people from the latter group — roughly 3 percent — had the same bacteria living in their stomachs. So for every non-surfer with untreatable E. coli bacteria, there were three surfers.
Eighteen states raised their minimum wages at the start of 2018, but increasing labor costs are strangling the dining industry so much that restaurants could soon face the same fate as shopping malls.“I think you’re going to see thousands of restaurants close their doors,” Willie Degel, “Restaurant Stakeout” host and CEO of Uncle Jack’s Steakhouse, told FOX Business. “Fine dining is going to go by the wayside.” The downward cycle seems daunting to Degel and other industry insiders. As costs rise, only so much of the burden can be passed along to consumers in the form of price hikes before they decide they cannot afford the expense. “When we increase in prices … we see guest count go down,” Degel noted. “The consumer is not willing to pay for the experience then.” Michael Mabry, president of MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes, told FOX Business throughout recent years he also turned to price increases in order to balance out swelling costs. However, at the first opportunity, he brought menu prices back down by 10%. In addition to raising prices, businesses often cope with minimum wage increases by firing staff. Last week, casual dining chain Red Robin Gourmet Burgers (RRGB) announced it would eliminate busboy positions at 570 restaurant locations. Degel said he got rid of busboys at his New York restaurants two years ago, and has more recently turned to staff cuts “across the board.”
Neighbors have expressed their horror after discovering a quiet suburban couple allegedly shackled their 13 children to beds in a filthy room, before a teenage girl escaped, called the police and saved her siblings.David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49, were arrested at their home in Perris, California, on Sunday after their children - aged between two and 29 years old - were found padlocked and chained inside a foul-smelling room, according to police.
Riverside County Sheriff's Department began investigating after a 17-year-old girl freed herself, escaped the home and called the police on a cell phone she stole from inside the property on Sunday morning, cops said.
The girl's 12 siblings were then discovered by officers, who charged their parents with torture and child endangerment.
But shocked neighbors on Muir Woods Road said they did not even know children lived in the property, and were horrified to learn what was really going on inside.
The State Department last week issued a stark warning to people setting out for the Hermit Kingdom, cautioning that anyone heading to the dangerous dictatorship should prepare for the possibility of not returning. “The U.S. government is unable to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in North Korea as it does not have diplomatic or consular relations with North Korea,” the State Department published Wednesday on its website.
Those who wish to travel to North Korea must be approved for a special validation, which are handed out on “very limited circumstances.” U.S. travelers given the approval to experience Kim Jong Un’s regime should then prepare for the worst — including drafting a will and making funeral and property arrangements with family and friends.
As David Knight previously reported, a large COOP (Continuity of Operation) drill Dark Winter, was scheduled for the beginning of January.
Was the false alarm in Hawaii part of that? A follow-up?
Regardless, the takeaway lesson from the Hawaiian missile false alarm is: You’re on your own & government isn’t going to protect you.
